Man outside wearing Jabra Evolve2 75 headset while working on laptop

Jabra's Evolve series has long been a favourite of customers, and for good reason. It set the bar pretty high for a mid level office headset that can also serve double duty as a pair of stereo headphones. The new and improved Jabra Evolve2 75, which is the direct upgrade over the previous Evolve 75, boasts several key advantages over its predecessor, namely improved Active Noise Cancelling, better comfort and ergonomics and significantly better battery life.

While the Evolve2 75 is a worthy successor to the already-popular Evolve 75. But with a higher price tag, is this headset really worth it? In this review, we'll take a closer look at the features, performance, and value of the Jabra Evolve2 75 to help you decide if it's the right choice for you.

Who is the Jabra Evolve2 75 for?

The Jabra Evolve2 75 is designed for professionals who demand a high-performance wireless headset that can keep up with their busy work schedules, whether they're working from home, in the office, or a mixture of both. Its advanced features and excellent sound quality make it perfect for workers who require crystal-clear audio for calls and video conferences, and the active noise-cancelling technology ensures that they can focus on their tasks without any distractions.

Additionally, the Evolve2 75's stylish and comfortable design makes it ideal for long periods of use, while the long battery life means users can stay connected throughout the day without worrying about running out of power. In short, the Jabra Evolve2 75 is an excellent choice for anyone who needs a top-of-the-line wireless headset for work purposes.

Size & Comfort

Comfort is a critical factor to consider when selecting a headset, and the Jabra Evolve2 75 doesn't disappoint in this regard. It features a softer inner ring of foam in the ear-cup that makes it comfortable for all-day use. Additionally, the headset's "dual-foam technology" provides better ventilation to prevent any discomfort caused by sweating or overheating.

The headband of the Evolve2 75 is padded with soft leatherette, which adds to the overall comfort. At 197g, the headset is also very lightweight, ensuring that you won't feel any unnecessary weight on your head even after extended periods of use.

It's important to note, however, that the headset can only be worn with the microphone arm on the right side. We're not sure why it was designed this way, considering previous versions would let you have the mic on either side, but it is the way it is. We guess it'll at least prevent you from accidentally having your headset on the wrong way around.

What's Included in the Box?

The Jabra Evolve2 75 comes with the essential accessories needed to get started right out of the box. Inside, you'll find the headset itself, a USB-C to USB-A cable for charging, and a Jabra Link 380 Bluetooth USB dongle that provides a more reliable connection with your computer and extends the wireless range up to 30 metres. Additionally, a soft zip-up pouch is included for convenient storage and portability. While an optional charging dock is available separately, the basic package has everything you need to start using the headset.

Additional Features

The Jabra Evolve2 75 has some great additional features that help it stand out from the crowd. One of these is the 'on-head detection' function, which automatically pauses media or mutes a call when you take the headset off and resumes when you put it back on. This feature can be configured using Jabra apps, allowing you to customise the settings to your liking.

The headset also comes with the Jabra Sound+ app, which is available for both Android and iOS. With this app, you can optimise the audio to suit your hearing, switch to Alexa as the default voice assistant, turn on the Find My Jabra feature, adjust sound settings, and update the firmware. The app also offers controls for the Active Noise Cancelling and Hear Through modes, adjustable EQ, and built-in soundscapes designed to help you concentrate and relax.

For desktop users, the headset works with the Jabra Direct software. This combines some of the app features with an on-screen dashboard for calls. Although not essential to the operation of the headset, it can be a handy addition for those who frequently use their headset for work.

Battery Life

Jabra claims that the Evolve2 75 headset can last up to 36 hours for music listening or 25 hours for talk time on a single battery charge, without ANC or the busy light being activated. With ANC or the busy light activated you can expect 33 hours for music listening and 19 hours talk time.

If you forget to charge the headset, it can reach full battery capacity in 2 hours and 40 minutes. It also has a convenient quick charge feature, so charging it for just 15 minutes can provide up to 6 hours of use. You can also use the headset while it's charging with a USB cable, so you will never be caught out without battery.

NB: If you turn on the Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) feature it can reduce the battery life for listening time from 36 hours to 33 hours.

Overall, the battery life of the Jabra Evolve2 75 is impressive, even with the ANC feature turned on.

Microphone Quality

The Jabra Evolve2 75 has an eight-microphone array, four analog and four digital MEMS mics, that work together to filter out ambient noise and increase voice clarity. The microphone boom can be lowered for calls or tucked away when not in use. When the boom is extended, the microphone intelligibility is excellent, and the mics emphasise the human voice's frequency range.

In addition, the mics can filter out background noise effectively and isolate voices even in noisy environments. When the boom is retracted, the mics mute by default, but the headset can be configured to keep the mics active in this configuration. While the clarity suffers a bit with the boom retracted, it's still comparable to a traditional pair of Bluetooth headphones. Overall, the microphone quality of the Jabra Evolve2 75 is excellent, meeting the rigorous standards of Microsoft's Open Office requirements.

Active Noise Cancelling Performance

The Jabra Evolve2 75 boasts Active Noise Cancellation technology in the earcups, which can be adjusted to regulate how much of the surrounding noise is heard. The dual-foam technology used in the earcups makes them firmer on the outer ring, which helps to cancel out even more noise and keep your music private.

The headset also has a hear through feature, which allows special mics to pick up outside sound and transmit it to your earcups, so you don't have to take off the headset to communicate with someone in person.

Active Noise Cancellation has become a standard feature on premium headsets, and the Jabra Evolve2 75 is no exception. Jabra refers to it as concentration mode, and it can be a handy tool for improving productivity by reducing distracting background noise. However, ANC can reduce battery life, and in the case of the Evolve2 75, talk time is reduced from 25 hours to 19 hours, but that is still enough battery to last a whole work day of calls without skipping a beat.

Sound Quality

The Jabra Evolve2 75 boasts excellent sound quality, particularly for speech clarity. The headset features eight precision-placed microphones and a triple chipset powered by a Jabra algorithm, which filters out background noise, allowing for crystal clear calls. The headset has been designed to meet Microsoft’s Open Office requirements, which means that clients will hear you loud and clear.

In addition to great call quality, the Evolve2 75 also offers great sound quality for listening to music, podcasts or audiobooks. While some audiophiles may notice some compromises made to achieve the headset's sound profile and the impact of noise-cancelling technology, these compromises are not as evident as they are in other office headsets. There is decent bass output and users can make adjustments to the sound EQ as required using the Jabra Direct software.

The headset's microphones have also seen a significant improvement over the previous design, with eight independent sensors that capture sound from the retractable boom and from the speaker housings. The processing of these sources allows the ANC to be very effective, as the headset can easily differentiate between background noise and more relevant audio.

Connectivity

The Jabra Evolve2 75 supports Bluetooth 5.2 technology, which at the time of writing, is the latest (and greatest) version of Bluetooth. It offers a stable and reliable wireless connection with a pretty generous range of up to 30 meters. You can pair this headset with up to eight devices and switch between them seamlessly. Additionally, it can connect to two devices simultaneously, making it ideal for users who need to take calls on both their computer and mobile phone.

The headset also comes with a Bluetooth USB dongle, which gives you even better sound quality and Bluetooth signal strength when plugged into your computer or laptop. You can also pair it with your mobile phone via Bluetooth.

Price

The price of the Jabra Evolve2 75 varies depending on the configuration you choose. Unlike the Evolve2 65, the Evolve2 75 only comes in stereo configurations and doesn't have a mono version. So there are only two factors that affect its price, whether it has a charging stand or not. Below is the price for the headset with and without a stand, in the Microsoft Teams certified configuration.

The only real downside to the Evolve2 75 is its high price, which varies depending on whether you opt for a charging stand or not. But this is a premium product and its features and quality reflect the price. It may also not be suitable for users who prefer to wear the microphone on their left side.
