Woman wearing Jabra Evolve2 headset

As more and more of us continue to work from home and attend meetings virtually, finding the right headset has never been more important. Poor audio quality and uncomfortable headsets can cause a great deal of frustration and disrupt productivity. The Jabra Evolve2 65 Bluetooth headset is here to solve these problems and provide a seamless experience for business professionals who spend a lot of time on calls and video meetings.

The Evolve2 65 is a direct upgrade over the previous Evolve 65, so we are curious to find out if it actually is that much of an improvement over the previous model. In this review, we'll take a closer look at all its features and performance as well as its noise cancelling ability and sound quality to determine if it lives up to its promise.

Who is the Jabra Evolve2 65 for?

The Jabra Evolve2 65 is designed for hybrid workers who require a headset that can be used for both professional and personal use. The Evolve2 65 also offers a pleasing sound signature that is perfectly tuned for voice, and can be customised further through its companion Jabra Sound+ app, which is available for both Android and iOS.

The noise isolating foam padded earcups make them an excellent choice for workers who want to eliminate background noise, although it's worth noting that these don't have Active Noise Cancelling technology, but instead passively block out noise by forming a seal around the ears. However, for those who don't need to completely block out the background and just prefer to have it much quieter, these are a solid pick. To learn more about the differences between types of noise cancelling in headsets, check out our blog post on the differences between Active Noise Cancelling and Passive Noise Cancelling.

Overall, the Jabra Evolve2 65 is a great choice for anyone who needs a versatile headset that can be used for both work and casual listening, particularly hybrid workers who split their time between working in the office and remotely.

Size & Comfort

Comfort is a top priority for the Jabra Evolve2 65. The wide, memory foam padded headband and extra cushioning on the earcups ensure a comfortable fit for extended periods of use. The larger, oval, isolating foam padded ear-cups are also angled to ensure an excellent fit, while blocking out background noise. It's worth noting that the ear-cups are curved, which gives you a great ergonomic fit to block out distractions, but it also means that you can only wear the microphone on the right side. Overall, the Evolve2 65 strikes a great balance between comfort and performance, making it a solid choice for professionals who spend a lot of time on calls or listening to audio.

What's Included in the Box?

In the box of the Jabra Evolve2 65, you'll find the headset itself, a Jabra Link 380 USB dongle (available in both USB-A and USB-C configurations), a USB-C to USB-A cable for charging and firmware updates, and a soft pouch for storage. The Jabra Link 380 USB dongle is a particularly important accessory as it enables a more stable connection and better range than using the in built Bluetooth on your computer or laptop. Additionally, the inclusion of a USB-C to USB-A cable means that you can charge the headset with the majority of modern laptops and computers. The soft pouch is a nice touch as it provides an easy way to store the headset while not in use, helping to protect it from scratches and other damage.

Additional Features

The Jabra Evolve2 65 comes with a range of additional features to enhance the user experience. These include a mute button, volume controls that can also function as track controls, a play/pause button, and an easy-to-find answer/hang up button. The microphone has a smart flip-up to mute and flip-down to unmute feature, along with a red light that indicates when you're on a call, so others around you will know you're busy.

The headset also features a Teams button that allows you to join an active Microsoft Teams call when your headset is on (assuming you purchase the MS version of this headset). With specialised support for Microsoft Teams and UC-certification, the headset is an ideal choice for business users. The controls located on the right earcup make it easy to manage playback and volume, and the headset is well-suited for remote meetings and calls.

Battery Life

The Jabra Evolve2 65 boasts an impressive battery life of up to 37 hours, which is particularly convenient for those who need to use their headset for extended periods without access to charging facilities. The Evolve2 65 can also fully charge in just 90 minutes. The headset also comes with an optional charging stand that makes it easy to keep the headset charged and ready for use, while keeping your desk free from clutter and cables. In addition to the long battery life, the Evolve2 65 also supports fast charging, providing up to 8 hours of battery life with just a 15-minute charge. These features make the Evolve2 65 an excellent option for professionals who need a reliable and long-lasting headset to use throughout the day without having to worry about battery life.

Microphone Quality

The Jabra Evolve2 65 has a high-quality microphone that does an excellent job of filtering out background noise, making your voice sound clear and crisp during calls. We tested the headset in various noisy environments, and it consistently provided excellent call quality.

The microphone is designed to pick up sound from the direction of the user's mouth, while minimising ambient noise from other directions. This is particularly useful in a busy office environment or when working from home, where there may be external noise such as children playing, traffic, or other people talking in the background.

In addition, the microphone features a sidetone function, which allows users to hear their own voice in the headset, reducing the need to speak louder than necessary. This feature can help prevent voice fatigue during long conference calls or when working for extended periods.

Overall, the Jabra Evolve2 65 has an impressive microphone that is particularly useful for professionals who require clear audio during conference calls, virtual meetings, and other voice-based communication. The noise cancelling feature is particularly useful for noisy environments and makes your voice sound clear and natural.

Noise Cancelling Performance

The Evolve2 65s don't feature ACTIVE noise cancelling (which is technology to block out background noise for the user), and you will need to go up a grade in the series to either the Evolve 75, Evolve2 55, Evolve2 75 or Evolve2 85 for that feature, (or the Evolve2 50 if you don't mind a corded headset) but the Jabra Evolve2 65 does have PASSIVE noise cancelling (which is blocking out external noise due to the design of the earcups sealing your ears) thanks to its large isolating foam padded earcups, which are also angled to ensure an snug fit, therefore getting rid of a lot of background noise for you. We feel that the passive noise cancelling in this headset is a significant improvement over the older Evolve 65s, which this new headset replaces.

Sound Quality

The Jabra Evolve2 65 headset has a strong focus on audio quality, both for calls and music playback. The headset features powerful speakers that deliver high-quality audio for music and other multimedia, and the materials used in the construction of the Evolve2 65 are designed to enhance the audio experience.

Additionally, Jabra has developed a new chipset to support the headset's audio features, and the Evolve2 65 is designed to offer professional-level sound quality for both incoming and outgoing calls.

Connectivity

The Jabra Evolve2 65 headset offers flexible connectivity options. It can be connected to a computer or laptop via the included USB dongle, which uses a standard USB-A (or USB-C) port. It can also be connected directly to your smartphone using Bluetooth. Additionally, there are variants of the headset available with a USB-C dongle, and some come with a charging stand.

The headset is certified for use with Microsoft Teams, which means it has a dedicated button to launch Teams. It's also suitable for use with all major softphones and is certified by Cisco, Avaya, Snom, Mitel, Yealink, and others.

The headset features a wireless range of up to 30 meters (100 feet) when using the USB dongle, and up to 10 meters (33 feet) when using Bluetooth. It also supports simultaneous Bluetooth connections to two devices, so you can easily switch between your computer and smartphone.

Overall, the Jabra Evolve2 65 offers versatile and convenient connectivity options, making it a great choice for professionals who need to stay connected to multiple devices throughout the day.

Price

The price of the Jabra Evolve2 65 varies depending on which configuration you choose. There are different options available, including mono or stereo, with or without a charging station, and with or without Microsoft Teams certification. At Simply Headsets, the cheapest configuration is mono without a stand, while the most premium option will be stereo with a charging stand. The link below is an example of a price configuration somewhere in the middle, with stereo (two ear cups) but no charging stand. It's important to consider which features are most important to you when selecting a configuration, as it can impact the overall cost of the headset.

Pros and Cons of the Jabra Evolve2 65

The Jabra Evolve2 65 has some great features that make it a top choice for many users. The headset is designed to work with both PCs/Macs and mobile phones and offers connectivity through a USB dongle or Bluetooth. It has powerful speakers that deliver great audio quality, making it perfect for listening to music while working. The Evolve2 65 is also certified for Microsoft Teams, which means it has a dedicated button to launch the software.

Another pro of the Evolve2 65 is its comfortable design. The wide, memory foam padded headband and extra cushioning on the earcups provide a comfortable fit for long work hours. The larger, oval, isolating foam padded ear-cups are also angled to ensure an excellent fit, eliminating lots more background noise for you. Plus, the busy light on the front and back of the earcup lets colleagues know when you're on a call or busy, preventing interruptions.

On the downside, the Evolve2 65 does not feature active noise cancelling (ANC) technology to block out background noise for the user. For that feature, you'll need to look into the Evolve2 75 or 85 models. Additionally, the curved design of the ear-cup means you can only wear the microphone on the right side.

Overall, the Jabra Evolve2 65 is a solid choice for remote workers looking for a versatile headset with great sound quality and a comfortable fit. While it may not have ANC and the microphone is limited to one side, it makes up for these shortcomings with its Microsoft Teams certification and useful features such as the busy light.

Final Verdict

We can confidently recommend the Jabra Evolve2 65 as a top-of-the-line headset for professionals who demand high-quality audio, long battery life, and comfort during extended periods of use. The headset's comfortable on-ear design, coupled with its 37-hour battery life and fast charging capabilities, make it an ideal option for remote workers, people who are always on the go, or those who work in quiet offices. The microphone quality is also quite impressive, with a flat response curve and automatic muting and unmuting when the boom is flipped up or down. With a range of configurations available, the Evolve2 65 can be tailored to fit the specific needs of individual users, whether it's a mono or stereo setup, with or without a charging stand, or with Microsoft Teams certification. Although it may be a bit pricey for some users, the Jabra Evolve2 65's premium features make it a worthwhile investment for those seeking a high-quality headset for work or personal use.
